Position Information
Hiring Department: Planning & Construction
Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm. Flexibility is required on evenings and weekends.
FLSA status: Exempt
Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

Position Summary
The Interior Designer is primarily responsible for the enhancement of all interior spaces through the proper use of materials, finishes, furniture, and fixtures that allows the use and utilization of the space. Responsible for planning, specifying, and implementing design elements and performing liaison responsibilities with vendors, clients, other design staff, contractors and purchasing staff.
Independently manages and co-manages projects with team members.
Verifies existing space dimensions per building or office space; documents existing equipment or furniture, and infrastructure (i.e., electrical, data, HVAC, gas) in coordination with Space Management and Facilities Services Staff.
Keeps team members and customers updated with project scope, design, schedule, revisions, and budgets as the project develops.
Use computer aided design packages. Software’s such as CAD, Microsoft Office (but not limited to) to prepare architectural drawings, design documents and construction schedules.
Prepares and conducts small to mid-size presentations along with interior project drawings for customer approval.
Proposes and develops furniture requisitions in preparation for purchase orders with Purchasing Buyer, submits work orders and prepares bid packages for release.
Inspects work progress, installed furniture and fixtures upon arrival within the adherence to construction schedules; communicates with suppliers to report any issues at time of installation and follows up on warranty replacements/repairs.
Responsible, with the Project Managers and/or Construction Managers, for all project closeout activities; including (but not limited to); schedule/receive/verify completion of final punch lists; request applicable final signatures on forms; verify completion of all pending front end requirements; check and submit all payment applications; receive and transition all Operations/Maintenance manuals to Facilities Dept.; conduct meetings with contractor and end-user on how to “use” their facility if needed; transmits user occupancy and facility maintenance requirements to appropriate parties.
Complies with all State and University policies and is familiar with all applicable building life safety and accessibility codes.
Help build and maintain University furniture and finish standards.
Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's objectives, policies and applicable laws.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Associate degree in interior design or related fields.
Experience: Five years of experience, related to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Note: This position requires a valid, state issued drivers license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Baccalaureate or Professional degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related fields. Preferably accredited from CIDA or NAAB.
Eight years of commercial design experience, related to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid Texas Board of Architectural Examiners or NCARB/NCIDQ certificate holder or capable of attaining licensure within 2 years.
